Agent
Provocateur
by Carlton Books, Joseph Corre
By Joseph Corré and Serena Rees.
Soft and curvaceous, mysterious and provocative, the female form has
an extraordinary power over us--and after centuries of social and political
change, femininity and sexuality can now be flaunted unashamedly. By looking
at evocative representations of women throughout history--corsets, '50s
pin-up gals, striptease, and lingerie--this book describes the changes
in attitude toward the female form. Within are selected works by Eric Stanton,
John Willie, Elmer Batters, Allen Jones, Milo Manara, Irving Klaw, Gil
Elvgren and others as well as images of Bettie Page, Marilyn Monroe, Tempest
Storm and other famous women.
The authors are also founders of London-based Agent Provocateur, a
shop devoted to exquisite, tantalizing and glamorous lingerie. Chapters
include Fashion, Fantasy, Striptease, Sexuality--you get the drift. Nicely
illustrated. Included is a provocative facsimile letter about a 1921 shopping
trip for undies to "drive all the boys wild." More than 200 images.

Dreams
of Spring: Chinese Erotic Art
Book Description: Erotic art is an eminent part of the cultural
heritage of ancient China, and was already flourishing in pre-Imperial
times. With its peak during the late-Ming period, this art remained a fixed
feature in Chinese literature and visual arts until well into the 20th
century. At its best, Chinese erotic art is a search for beauty in all
its manifestations, for not only does it offer stimulation, it provides
a source of great aesthetic pleasure. It never presents sex in a crude
or pornographical way, but within a framework of beauty and harmony, enhanced
with details of a profound or symbolic nature.
DREAMS OF SPRING presents for the first time the treasures of one of
the world's most important collections of Chinese erotic art. The text
and descriptions in this book are the result of many years of scholarly
research by one of the principal authorities in this field; Rev. Yimen,
who studied Chinese history and literature at the major universities of
China, before devoting herself to this neglected field of China's spiritual
traditions

Exquisite
Mayhem
by Ehret, Taschen
The highly glamorized world of professional wrestling has been one
of the most popular forms of entertainment in this country for decades.
The garish costumes and boisterous behavior of the stars of the ring attract
audiences and drive an industry that includes magazines, television and
merchandising. In the '60s and '70s, wrestling was a sport deemed too violent
for television, and this raw form was captured by Theo Ehret. Every picture
is shown full-page, glorifying the size, strength and brutality of these
fearless entertainers, each one filled with pomp and hubris. But another
side to wrestling also grew popular, a form known as "Apartment Wrestling."
These were designed photo shoots in hotels, apartments, or sets made to
look as such, and pitted two women in a bikini match that more often than
not ended in a fully nude erotic display, complete with impassioned expressions
and groping holds. Far too erotic for the mainstream, these were nevertheless
popular as a classic male fantasy. Most of this unusual volume reveals
this erotic side of wrestling. An over-sized, well-done offering that comes
with a clear vinyl dustjacket and images on the endpapers. More than 475
photos, including promotional shots and live matches, plus an index of
images.

Feet-Ishism
(Temptation)
by Hans-Jurgen Dopp
In this work Döpp looks at fetishism through the eyes
of different cultures and its central symbology of the foot (and legs).
Quoting period writers and supporting the text with vintage reproductions,
he shows the worshipful nature of fetishism, how the foot and shoe are
venerated as symbols of femininity and how shoes remain an identifier for
a woman's sexuality.
A well-documented and insightful approach that holds the foot fetish
as a lofty obsession rather than a base hobby for social misfits. More
than 60 illustrations and photographs.

Hans
Bellmer
by Sue Taylor
The German-born Surrealist Hans Bellmer (1902-1975), best known for
his life-size pubescent dolls, devoted an artistic lifetime to creating
sexualized images of the female body--distorted, dismembered, or menaced
in sinister scenarios. In this book Sue Taylor draws on psychoanalytic
theory to suggest why Bellmer was so driven by erotomania as well as a
desire for revenge, suffering, and the safety of the womb. Amazon.com

Pictures : Tom of Finland, Masculinity, and Homosexuality
by Micha Ramakers
In a gay heaven, the choir robes would be designed by Gautier after
drawings by Tom of Finland. Even on Earth, utopia must be approaching when
the musclebound torsos and bulging baskets of Tom's manly men attract a
full-length critical study. Art historian Micha Ramakers, who previously
edited a monograph of Tom of Finland's drawings, argues persuasively for
the influence of these hyper-masculine figures on gay culture since the
mid-1950s, when the artist's renderings of fantasy men first began to appear
in American beefcake magazines. Although the consistency of Tom of Finland's
technique and themes over the four decades of his working life doesn't
leave Ramakers much room to discuss the development of his subject's talents,
he makes ample use of his few opportunities (like the introduction of more
black figures in the mid-1980s, after the artist spent six months in the
U.S.). More rewardingly, he uses the pornographer's work as a lens for
examining the evolution of gay masculinity since the 1950s. --Regina Marler

Tom
of Finland : His Life and Times (Stonewall Inn Editions)
by F. Valentine Hooven
Perhaps no one has had a greater influence on gay male fashion than
illustrator-cartoonist Tom of Finland. In this volume his unusual and triumphant
life story is told in words and pictures. The pictures, of course, steal
the show, as Tom's bubble-bottomed macho men fight, love, and punish each
other. There's still much to be said about Tom's impact on American and
European gay culture, but this book provides a good starting point not
only for Tom's fans who want to learn about the man behind the leather-clad
images, but also for the uninitiated who've always wondered where the leather-cap-and-chaps
look origintated. Sadly, with Tom's death the flow of testosterone-packed
pictures has stopped, but volumes like this show that there is still life
in his legend. Amazon.com

Panic: The Erotic World of Weimar Berlin
by Mel Gordon
The author has assembled a voyeuristic tour of the sexual paradise
of Weimar Berlin--immortalized as the most debauched place on earth--during
the interwar years. Text and images cover the bizarre to the weirdly fascinating:
sex as a science, nudity for health, vintage sexual "aids," s&m, art
therapy, entertainment, the rampant sexuality of the German Youth Movement,
lesbian hierarchy and other equally attention-getting subjects.
This detailed survey is based on guidebooks, pictorial magazines, personal
memoirs, interviews, sociological accounts, and entertainment programs,
with more than 250 photographs, illustrations, posters, sketches, and diagrams.
Divided into chapters on WWI, prostitution, girl-culture, gay life,
lesbianism, transvestitism, nudism, sexology, sexual perversion, criminal
life, and the Nazi destruction of this underworld. Also includes a directory
of 50 Berlin night spots.
