Cincinnati
Bengals History (OH) (Images of Sports)
by Christine Mersch
Paperback from Arcadia Publishing
Media Published: 2006-
ISBN: 0738540900
There were three professional football teams in Cincinnati before the
current Bengals became a permanent fixture in the city. The Cincinnati
Celts, Reds, and an earlier Bengals team (formed in 1937) all had short
appearances in leagues that soon folded. It was not until 1967 that the
football gods again smiled on Cincinnati. Paul Brown, who founded the Cleveland
Browns in 1942, sold the Browns in 1962 and went to work organizing a Cincinnati
team that played its first game in 1968. While the Bengals may not own
any Super Bowl rings, they have won two AFC championship games, in 1981
and 1988, and were AFC Central Division champions five times, 1970, 1973,
1981, 1988, and 1990, as well as topping the AFC North in 2005. |

The
Road Back: The Cincinnati Bengals
by Lonnie Wheeler
Paperback from Orange Frazer Press
ISBN: 1933197145
See them at their best moments of leadership, pulling the ball out
of the sky, charging through a tenacious d-line, eluding a tackle, appreciating
the fans, or simply clowning around. These are not the Bengals of old;
these are the Bengals of Coach Marvin Lewis, a team of great players who
possess even greater character. And here is the photo book to prove it.
Gorgeous, large, color photographs, taken by Sports Illustrated contributing
photographer and Cincinnati resident Thomas Witte, chronicles the excitement
given by the players and taken in by the fans from the Marvin Lewis era
of the Cininnati Bengals--an era of winning seasons, zany touchdown celebrations,
and a future so bright you have to squint.
The road back for the Bengals includes the loss of old star players
but also the emergence and acquisition of young talent that came to the
team simply to be a part of the resurrection. From the grace of Jon Kitna,
to the stoic leadership of Carson Palmer, and the zany touchdown celebrations
of the uncoverable Chad Johnson, Marvin Lewis and his staff took a team
that had been trained to lose and taught them how to win.
Over 200 color photographs, with text by Cincinnati Post sportswriter
Lonnie Wheeler, tells the story of The Road Back for Cincinnati's Cinderella
team. This one-of-a kind keepsake Bengals photo book is a must for any
Bengals fan. |
