Glamour
Photography Workshop
by Martin Sigrist, Matthias Stolt, Wolfgang Welz
Book Description:
Join a team of photographers and two models on a practical workshop
in Majorca for a refreshing look at glamour photography, as they explore
both classical and experimental approaches.
Starting off with a look at the equipment required for a glamour shoot,
the authors also offer practical advice on searching for suitable models.
The pictures produced during the workshop describe the whole process, and
compositional considerations are covered next - the possibilities of camera
format and location, and how to frame a figure to achieve different effects.
The first practical session has the participants outdoors, choosing locations
at the pool, on the beach, and in the landscape. The need to plan shots
is emphasised, and this chapter offers plenty of practical advice on how
to do this. The second session sees the team setting up an indoor studio,
and gives examples of what can be achieved through the positioning of lighting
and reflectors, and the use of ambient light. The final chapter discusses
what can be done with the images once they have been shot, examining the
range of options with slide film, print film and digital media. More than
200 shots and 6 portfolios by the participants demonstrate the success
of the workshop, and make this book a real treat for all lovers of modern
glamour photography.

Guy
Bourdin
by Charlotte Cotton (Editor), Shelly Verthime (Editor)
Book Description: Guy Bourdin (1928-1991) created the most challenging
fashion photography of the late 20th century. Over a 35-year career, including
more than three decades creating confrontational images for French Vogue
and groundbreaking campaigns for Charles Jourdan footwear, he staged complex
dramas, with every gesture and prop carrying a potent psychological charge.
He showed us that in the context of fashion it is rarely the product that
compels us; it is the image--the seductive narratives of the commercial
world, and the quest for the unattainable--that stirs our desires. Today,
Bourdin stands as one of the most influential image-makers of all time.
Bourdin cultivated his anonymity, refusing all proposals for books and
exhibitions during his lifetime. This volume, published to coincide with
the first major exhibition of his photographs, showcases not only his fashion
images but also his brooding landscapes and magical cityscapes. The photographs
are accompanied by five specially commissioned essays, which together offer
the first thorough analysis of Bourdin's unique creativity.

Newton's SUMO
by Helmut Newton
Bringing an entirely new slant to the concept of the coffee-table book,
SUMO is a suitably enormous homage to 79-year-old Helmut Newton, the master
of subversive and erotic photography. "I wanted to build a monument to
the most important photographer of the 20th century," comments Benedikt
Taschen, the publisher behind SUMO. He delivers. Weighing over 65 pounds,
measuring more than two feet long, and breaking any previous size record
in book publishing, SUMO contains 480 pages of every aspect of Newton's
outstanding career in photography. Each copy of the book is bound by hand
and numbered and signed by the artist. In order to showcase this colossus,
the book is packaged with its own stand designed by Philippe Starck. This
outsized volume contains the body of Newton's controversial yet iconographic
work, documenting fashion, fetishism, and above all an overriding obsession
with voyeurism that can make the viewer feel complicit or uneasy by turns.
Newton himself describes SUMO as "terrifying and outrageous. I don't even
look at it as a book.... I look at it as an object." --Catherine Taylor,

Am Iman
by Iman, David Bowie
Book Description: Iman's emergence in 1975 sparked an upheaval
in cultural identity that continues today, and her first book is a gloriously
entertaining hybrid essay on the cultural cum-political power of good looks.
A quarter century of the most shockingly famous photographs by HELMUT NEWTON,
DAVID BAILEY, BRUCE WEBER and other tastemakers are contextualized by well-known
essayists, a chorus of celebrity contributions, and Iman's own take on
her much mythologizied career.

Sheila
Metzner: Form and Fashion
by Sheila Metzner (Photographer), et al
Sheila Metzner: Form and Fashion intermingles Metzner’s fashion work,
her sensual and erotic nudes, and her formalist still lifes — a juxtaposition
that conveys a romanticism balanced by precision. The transcendent quality
of many of Metzner’s photographs is enhanced by a printing process invented
by the Fresson family in 1895 in France, resulting in images that reveal
an ethereal tonal range and color saturation. The end results are uniquely
Metzner’s own, and have left a major impression on the history of photography.
