Glider Mail : An Aerophilatelic Handbook
Simine Short, Dan Barber
Hardcover / Published 1987
This 262-page descriptive catalogue is arranged in four sections to provide for varying reader interests and to aid further study in glider mail. The most extensive section, a detailed compilation of glider mail flights in 220 pages, lists all reported glider mail events from 1922 through 1986, including historical flight accounts and the philatelic treatment of mail. The listing is country-by-country (total of 34), with 25 outline maps showing the approximate locations of most events listed. More than 400 envelopes and cards, plus about 300 postmarks and vignettes are reproduced throughout the more than 1,000 specific listings. Eight plates highlight the development of gliding and soaring in line drawings and photos. Covers are priced according to a value or scarcity guide. For the thematic or topical collector, a "GliderPhile" section lists worldwide stamps and postal stationary from 88 countries. A 6-page reference listing enables philatelists and aero-hist! orians to continue their own research. The books final pages are a chronological cross-index and checklist. Glider Mail was published by the American Air Mail Society in 1987. There are a few new reports of flights in the 1920s and 1930s. The Author
