Haiku:
Japanese Art and Poetry 2012 Calendar (Wall Calendar)
by Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
Calendar from Pomegranate Press
ISBN: 0764957058
Availability: Usually ships in 24 hours
The traditional Japanese haiku contains seventeen sound characters,
a seasonal reference, and a distinct pause or interruption. The seasonal
allusion emphasizes the essence of haiku: nature and its ephemeral beauty.
The twelve deceptively simple haiku featured in this calendar rendered
in English with Japanese calligraphies and transliterations are from Pomegranate's
book Haiku: Japanese Art and Poetry, by Judith Patt, Michiko Warkentyne,
and Barry Till. The poems are paired with ukiyo-e prints and shin
hanga woodcuts. With their depth and delicacy, these artworks--like
their haiku counterparts--quietly capture a moment in time.
Size: 12 x 13 in.; opens to 12 x 26 in. Printed on FSC certified paper
with soy-based inks. |

Edward
Hopper 2012 Calendar (Wall Calendar)
by Whitney Museum of American Art
Calendar from Pomegranate Press
ISBN: 0764958798
Availability: Usually ships in 24 hours
The cityscapes and landscapes of early- to mid-twentieth-century America
depicted in the paintings of Edward Hopper (American, 1882-1967) are studies
in quiet and solitude. Yet far from bleak, most are warmed by the light
of the early morning or late afternoon sun that so fascinated the artist.
Whether or not people are present, Hopper's scenes possess a certain stillness--a
sense of moments frozen in time--that epitomizes his work. Twelve Hopper
masterpieces are presented here, among them Cape Cod Sunset, Seven A.M.,
and Vermont Landscape.
Size: 12 x 13 in.; opens to 12 x 26 in. Printed on FSC certified paper
with soy-based inks. |
