First known Morning Glory photo, Burketown

A peculiar storm formation called 'morning glory'

This is the earliest Morning Glory image I've found so far. In fact we'll just have to take their word for it that it is one as it looks more like a dust storm. Judging by the light, my guess is that it's the back of a Morning Glory as it recedes to the south-west.

The back of the photo (from the John Oxley Library, image number 108567) is inscribed "A peculiar storm formation called 'morning glory', no rain, which appears daily about 9.00 am. Taken from the Police Station" and is undated.

Other quite dramatic early images exist. I saw one or two splendid monochrome photographs at the Albert Hotel (The Burketown Pub) when Tex and Lorraine were running it, in 1989.
