R1100S 1999

 
 BMW Australia has announced the arrival of the stunning new BMW Sports boxer motorcycle, the R 1100 S.

 The sports offering from the prestige German maker harks back to the roots of BMW motorcycling by
 incorporating a flat twin engine, shaft drive, and comparatively light weight in a dynamic package which
 provides scintillating performance and traditional BMW balance.

 With its 1100cc 72kW (98bhp) engine powering the 229kg motorcycle to 100 km/h from a standing start in just
 4.0 seconds and with a top speed of 226 km/h, the new BMW R 1100 S is sure to provide more than a few
 thrills.

 Providing drive through a six speed transmission, featuring the latest in Digital Motor Electronics and having a
 three way catalytic converter fitted as standard world-wide, the new BMW continues the company's tradition of
 pushing technological advancement in motorcycles. The new sports motorcycle also features BMW's renowned
 paralever rear suspension and telelever front suspension, ensuring that its handling more than matches its
 straight-line speed and acceleration.

 The R 1100 S also introduces a new ellipsoid headlight built into its sporting semi-shell fairing, with built in
 indicators and an especially aggressive rear treatment featuring twin tail pipes just below the integrated tail
 light.

 Also a feature of the R 1100 S is the single seat look with a colour coded passenger seat cover and a
 particularly sporting riding position.

 The new BMW R 1100 S will enter the very active Australian sports motorcycle market at a highly competitive
 $18,500. It will be available in three colours - night black, brilliant red and mandarin.

 The super sports motorcycle market (greater than 500cc) in Australia accounts for approximately 5000 new
 bikes per year and the new BMW entry will add significant new interest to the segment.

 Commenting on the new entrant, BMW Australia's National Motorcycle Manager Olaf Breukers said "The arrival
 of the R 1100 S adds further strength to our model line-up with an even more sporting entrant. The success of
 the new BMW boxer range since its introduction in late 1992 proves that the high technology of BMW is sought
 after by the market. When combined with outright sporting capabilities I think we can feel confident that we have
 a very strong market entrant in the R 1100 S."

 BMW Australia expects to sell over 200 R 1100 S motorcycles per year, adding to its extensive model range
 which also includes the recently released and stunningly designed R 1200 C Cruiser and the 130bhp, in-line
 four cylinder, sports tourer, K 1200 RS.

 The R 1100 S is available from the nation-wide BMW Motorcycle dealership network from the second half of
 September 1998.
