Just traded my 2003 Honda ST1300 for a new 2004 Z1000. Both bikes cruise comfortably at 120 kph or 75 mph, but the Z1000 is lighter, quicker, better handling than the ST1300 could ever hope to be. In other words more fun! Up to those speeds the Z1000 has even less wind buffeting on my helmet than the ST1300. I toured to the Grand Canyon and back to Victoria BC on the ST1300 and two things of discomfort turned up that were not on any road test reports. First the ST1300 gives me dreaded "white knuckle" though which quickly fades when off the bike. Although the ST1300 seat is comfy agony sets in from chaffing caused by heat and sweat from long hot days of travel. The Z1000 is capable of touring and I have ordered a GIVI Monokey rear rack and case for my Z1000 which should solidify it's tour capability. A GIVI extended screen deflects a little more air at speed. The Z1000 is awesome power wise, yet quite easily controlable for most road situations. I have many years, since 1967, of riding experience and consider myself a competent and professional driver. Joleth.
