When first released in New York City, the print shown had the actors'
voices dubbed, because the Australian accent (Strine), was so strong
as to be barely intelligible to the American moviegoer. The original, however,
has gone on to become a cult classic - I haven't actually seen this DVD
version, but I believe it to be the original "undubbed" cut. It contains
some absolutely classic scenes, some of which will have you convulsed with
laughter. Others will remain with you for many years to come - it was a
film way ahead of it's time. And the sequels just got better, and spawned
a whole genre of similar post-apocalyptic movies. If you've seen Kostner's
Waterworld or The Postman, you will notice many similarities between those
and the Mad Max movies. I don't think they were accidental! Db
