The
“Vault” on video concept was created from the successful demand of CD releases
known as “Dicks Picks” and these three previously released video titles
have all garnered Gold and Platinum awards.
View
from the Vault IV is
part of a continuing series of unearthed treasures from the tour archives.

New for 2003: "View IV"
You see it now
as the audience heard it then!
In the summer of
1987 with both an album and single hovering near the top of the charts,
the Dead returned to California for the last two shows of the tour with
Dylan, in Oakland and Anaheim. The Dead suddenly transformed from a band
with a sizable cult following into one of the largest live draws of all
time.
It was a triumphant
homecoming!

Grateful Dead - Closing of Winterland
Grateful
Dead - The Closing of Winterland
DVD from Monterey Home Video
Published: 11 November, 2003
Defining an era of rock and roll at Bill Graham's crown
jewel of concert venues: "there is 100 times the demand than there are
tickets...I would venture it could have been half a million ...you haven't
seen the letters from Tokyo, New York. Boston, Miami!" - Bill Graham on
the Grateful Dead Closing of Winterland concert
Marking the end of an era, the world famous Winterland
Arena was already losing ceiling tiles, her paint and façade worn and battered.
In New York, it was the Fillmore East, and in San Francisco, it was first
the Fillmore and then Fillmore West, but the big room was always the legendary
rock palace that was Winterland. The 70's were rockin' to a close (Janis,
The Airplane, The Doors, The Who) and it was time to bid adieu. The celebrated
Rock n' Roll promoter Bill Graham created a piece of Rock n' Roll history
when he chose the Grateful Dead as his favorite band to commemorate the
closing party of Winterland& and what a party is was! What a DVD this
is!
