1.Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture:The New RecordingTchaikovsky: 1812 Overture:The New Recording
from Telarc
Price: $22.48

Customer Review:
Great sounding DVD. The cannons are not as impressive as I thought they would be; have the setup (7.1 THX Cert system), but overall fine audio quality.

2.Beethoven - Symphonies 1 and 2 (DVD Audio)Beethoven - Symphonies 1 and 2 (DVD Audio)
from Teldec
Price: $14.09

Customer Review:
I was a classical musician who spent almost a decade at Juilliard. I have been an audiophile for most of my adult life and have had countless systems.
This DVD-audio on my latest system (B&W 801D, Classe CAM-400, CDP102, CP500) represents the pinnacle of two channel audio. The performances... more info

3.Beethoven - Symphonies 7 and 8 (DVD Audio)Beethoven - Symphonies 7 and 8 (DVD Audio)
from Teldec

Customer Review:
I have a very good surround sound system, and my DD 5.1 DVDs, as well as Blue Man Group's "Complex" audio DVD, sound fantastic. Alas, my DVD player doesn't support DVD-A, so I can't comment on that. I can only say that the DD 5.0 track sounds like a CD. There is no immersive feel to the mix, nor do... more info

4.Bach Classics [DVD Audio]Bach Classics [DVD Audio]
from Digital Sound

Customer Review:
The good :

- The sound on this recording is absolutely great in 5.1 surround. I played the DTS 5.1 track. My Yamaha receiver indicated a 1536 kbps bit rate and 48 kHz sampling rate, which is quite good. The DD 2.0 track is only 192 kbps and does not sound nearly as good. I couldn't try the MLP 5.1... more info

6.Hommage L Orchestra Lamoreaux (DVD Audio)Hommage L'Orchestra Lamoreaux (DVD Audio)
from Elektra / Wea

Customer Review:
This is a wonderful disc and I agree with the previous reviewer that it is a great example of the possibilities 5.1 brings to the music listening experience. I own about 35 music DVDs or SACDs and this one definitely ranks high on the list of the best. Some 5.1 discs play around with the surround... more info

7.Immersion (DVD-Audio)Immersion (DVD-Audio)
from Skarbo
Price: $14.92

Customer Review:
I'm still not sure what to think of this. It isn't really anything. It is a decent showcase for a 5.1 system, but it's so boring and repetitive that you can't sit and listen to it for more than 5 min. Big disappointment.

8.Bach: Organ Spectacular [DVD Audio]Bach: Organ Spectacular [DVD Audio]
from Teldec

Customer Review:
To get the best audio quality from this disc, I think you need to play this on a DVD-Audio player, and avoid any downmixing to two channels. The disc is labelled as containing an "Advanced Resolution Stereo" 96/24 track, but there does not appear to be one on the disc.
This is a brilliant,... more info

9.Dvorak: Symphony No. 9; The Water Goblin [DVD Audio]Dvorak: Symphony No. 9; The Water Goblin [DVD Audio]
from Teldec

Customer Review:
Nikolaus Harnoncourt has specialized in rethinking classical music, sometimes to my horror (as in his aggressive, punchy Mozart and Beethoven) but other times to my delight. His Dvorak is full of surprises: lots of tempo changes, unusual balances, sudden accents and mesmerizing hush. But innately... more info

from Teldec

Customer Review:
I seem to be the only one here that does not like this recording.
I don't have anything against Mehta (his recording of the First with the Israel Philharmonic is quite good). But this album seems to be "phoned in" both in terms of emotional impact and sound quality.
If you want to hear an... more info
