 If you have to write a linux kernel module, this book is a lifesaver. The source-code for the samples is available online and saved me a ton of time getting the basics of a device file / ioctls / etc going so I could communicate with my module and focus on value add instead of boilerplate.

 Thank goodness for this book. It's a big, 3" thick book, that's more of a reference guide to do a bunch of really useful tasks. Example, you "could" start at page 1, but there's no point. Check the TOC or Appendix, pick what you want to learn, and just go directly to it. I'm not as versed in... more info

I was under the impression that this was an introduction to Linux for those who know little or nothing about it (its title gives that impression, as well as some of the promotional copy). This is not the case at all. It is highly technical, more of a look-up, reference manual... more info
