Customer Review: Another great book by Tom Matus. I finished both projects in the book and I'am very pleased with the results. The book has great pictures and clear instructions. Tom tells you how to carve, paint and antique birds. The wood duck was a hard paint job for me but the end result was worth it. Thanks J.... more info
Customer Review: THe book is excellent. It gives a very nice detailed accounting of how to carve a mallard duck detail, soup to nuts. The illustrations are beautiful, the text generally excellent. Covers wood selection, tools, details of carving (down to the shape of the nostrils on the bill and the overlap of the... more info
Customer Review: I found this book to be better than any other carving book I have purchased. The painting guides are accurate and detailed, the patterns are realistic and proportionate, and each species has several different head poses included. I use this book while carving and painting more than all of my others... more info
Customer Review: The book was O.K., but not what I was looking for. Thought it would give some details on painting the finished project. It would have been better if I could preview, before purchasing.
Customer Review: this book was a waste of money! The pictures looked like cartoons and the instructions were non existant! The only instructions were in the last few pages and they were very vague. Like, details may be added now. That doesn't help much. Needs details like feather patterns abd brush strokes for... more info
Customer Review: Jim Sprankle, a carver of exceptional caliber, leads the reader through a step-by-step process in transforming a lifeless block of wood into a life-like work of art. No detail is left unmentioned, and the photographs provide a close-up view of the intricate carving and painting that make Sprankle's... more info
Customer Review: This is one book that I never received, even after they charged my credit card, they would not respond to my emails, offer a refund, or even send me a replacement for the "one lost in the mail."
Customer Review: This book is exactly what it says it is, full life size duck decoy patterns. The book contains 16 different patterns of the more common ducks. The patterns can be taken out of the book and used as templates. The patterns give you a good starting point to begin carving.
Customer Review: I enjoyed the book. I'm a very novice decoy painter and I found everything I wanted for painting a pintail drake. Jimmy did not hold anything back and I would say it is well worth it.
