| | 1. | | The Odyssey from Penguin Classics Price: $10.88
Customer Review:
Although I respect Fagles as a modern translator, I cannot recommend his translations of Homer...I would probably only recommend his translations of Sophocles's 3 Theban Plays. Homer's Iliad and Odyssey don't sound like Epics anymore under Fagles...they are turned into mild nice sounding... more info

| | 2. | | Mythology from Back Bay Books Price: $11.19
Customer Review:
This book was a requirement for my AP class, and it definitely served its purpose. I do know that you should find the latest edition because it has all of the helpful stuff like author bios and the like. This collection of myhtologies is like cliff notes for nearly every mythological story... more info

| | 3. | | The Odyssey: The Fitzgerald Translation from Farrar, Straus and Giroux Price: $9.60
Customer Review:
Well, I'm not a Greek or Classics major. The writing program I work for assigns this edition. A vast... more info

| | 4. | | Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes from Grand Central Publishing Price: $7.99
Customer Review:
A wonderful, summarized account of Greek and Roman mythology. Hamilton takes a more serious note than others just out to tell the stories, but fortunately never goes out on an intellectual limb to disect all meanings. Rather she handles the mythology professionally while still obviously revelling in... more info

| | 7. | | The Iliad of Homer from University Of Chicago Press Price: $11.34
Customer Review:
I recognize and agree that Lattimore's translations of "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey" are the MOST TRUE to Homer and Ancient Greek we have ever seen. Two minor examples: he uses long verse lines (like Homer), maintains Homer's sentence structure and he keeps and repeats all the Epitaphs exactly... more info

Customer Review:
(I'm not sure why amazon has over half of these reviews for Fagels's translation on Rieu's page? I noticed this happening quite a bit on amazon, but anyway...) I have spent quite a bit of time comparing versions of "The Odyssey", and out of all of them I settled on Rieu's pioneering... more info
