| | 1. | | Lord Hornblower (Hornblower Saga) from Back Bay Books Price: $11.19
Customer Review:
I have now read all but one of the Hornblower series, and there's not a clinker in the lot. This book is just as good as the others and I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. Hornblower's combination of ingenious daring and wracking self-doubt make him one of my favorite literary characters. I do,... more info

| | 2. | | Beyond the Reef (The Bolitho Novels) from McBooks Press Price: $10.85
Customer Review:
By now we've heard almost all the sail commands and maneuvers possible, and Kent seems to have run out of new sea lore. This is another book in which Bolitho's passionate interest in his married lover Catherine takes pride of place to sea action. Kent is spinning his wheels in these later stories,... more info

| | 6. | | The Darkening Sea (The Bolitho Novels) from McBooks Press Price: $11.86
Customer Review:
Unlike some reviewers, the more we get of personality development in the Bolitho series, the more I have come to enjoy it. There's definitely less sea action, but I don't miss it when I'm dished up such interesting characters. The only problem I had reading this entry in the series was the numerous... more info

| | 7. | | Ramage's Mutiny (The Lord Ramage Novels) from McBooks Press Price: $10.85
Customer Review:
In this particular book, we find Ramage sailing around the Caribbean. He's given the task of retrieving a ship that mutineers have given over to the Spanish. One captain has already failed. The task is impossible. Can Ramage do it? Of course. Ramage is a true hero in the old style tradition.... more info

| | 8. | | For My Country's Freedom (The Bolitho Novels) from McBooks Press Price: $10.85
Customer Review:
I'm a big fan of the Bolitho series but the later novels seem to be much more about sentimental relationships rather than naval action. In this one, Bolitho doesn't even go to sea until page 151. There's still good stuff here, but it's getting harder to wade through all the tear jerking.
