| | 1. | | Tobacco Road from University of Georgia Press Price: $12.89
Customer Review:
As a son of the south, reading another child of the south is always an interesting adventure, and "Tobacco Road" was one of the great forbidden books of my childhood, along with "To Kill A Mockingbird," and forms a fairly neat flipside for that enduring and endearing tale of justice and innocence.... more info

| | 2. | | God's Little Acre from University of Georgia Press Price: $12.89
Customer Review:
For a book that begins so well, it all comes to nothing in the end. I could easily see this book being turned into an old PBS videotaped teleplay because that's what it reads like. The characters repeat the same lines over and over, the action, what little there is, is relegated to only a few... more info

| | 3. | | The Stories of Erskine Caldwell from University of Georgia Press Price: $18.96
Customer Review:
Despite the fact that I wasted a lot of time one summer searching high and low for a book called "Tobacco Road", which had been forbidden me as a read "unfit for children", Erskine Caldwell turned out not to be one of my favorite writers after all. For some reason, his style didn't fit my psyche.more info

| | 4. | | Georgia Boy from University of Georgia Press Price: $18.95
Customer Review:
In this collection of fourteen short stories, Caldwell continues his allegory of the proto-Capitalist South found in God's Little Acre, Tobacco Road and Journeyman. Each short story is a humorous look at the issues facing the South with one foot in the mythical Antebellum and one in a modern world... more info

| | 5. | | Journeyman (Brown Thrasher Books) from University of Georgia Press Price: $15.16
Customer Review:
What did Ozzy say, "I'm looking for a Miracle Man that tells me no lies/ I'm looking for a Miracle Man who's not in disguise?" Ozzy was of course discussing Jimmy Swaggart's "I Have Sinned" speech. Swaggart and Jim Bakker both gave a black eye to the Pentecostal evangelism in the 1980's. Yet, fifty... more info

Customer Review:
If you like the new ABC TV show DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES you might like to go back in literary history and see where some of the humorous and yet horrifying small town antics began, and there's no better place to start than Erskine Caldwell's searing PLACE CALLED ESTHERVILLE. There's no article before... more info
