Bierstadt was one of the greatest painters in American history. It's a pretty sorry situation that this seems to be the only major book on him in print. However, this is still a good book. Read it. Also, check my Amazon Listmania list on landscape painting for more books about the beauty of nature.

As explained in this wonderful book of his images of western America, Bierstadt's gift was to portray America at a time before the images reflected were the subject of quality photographs.
