In response to the smell that some are noting in their ads, right out of the box, I didn't notice a scent at all, but based on the reviews, I took it out of the plastic that it came in right away, and took the little ottomans out of the big one and kept the lids off and sat it all out for a day. Perfect The storage ottoman came yesterday and so far I am very pleased! The package was a little torn and worn out by the time it got to me, but the product was not damaged. There is a smell, but it's just the leather-like material. We're letting ours air out and the smell is already beginning to fade. The storage is great for our puzzles and games, with room to spare. Cute & practical, but P.U.! This set was a steal for $99 in the Goldbox, especially considering it's real leather. I really like it, but phew! What a stink! When this thing arrived, it came with its own pungent cloud of ammonia-stench. I'm guessing that's what was used to tan the leather, but it took forever for the smell to dissipate, and the inside still smells strongly almost 4 months later. Caveat emptor.
