This set of three paring knives offers one of each style to cover the gamut of a busy kitchen's paring requirements. The tapered 3-inch spear-point parer is useful for smaller cutting tasks that require excellent control, such as de-stemming strawberries, coring tomatoes, or trimming green beans. The 3-inch sheep's foot parer has a straight blade and blunt tip that is good for slicing and dicing small vegetables, such as garlic or green onions. Finally, the curved 2-1/2-inch bird's beak parer hugs the surface of round fruits and does a wonderful job of peeling apples or pears.

These parers are part of Wusthof's Silver Point series of knives, which caters to chefs on a tighter budget. While the knives are still manufactured in Germany of high-carbon stainless steel, the blades are thinner than those of other Wusthof lines and are stamped rather than forged of a single piece of metal. The edges, however, are still laser-tested like more expensive Wusthof knives to ensure a long-lasting sharp edge and uniform cutting. • Great little knives
  When I buy a paring knife, what is most important to me, is sharpeness and blade shape. These 3 little knives were excellent in this category. They are extra sharp blades and the shape of them is perfect for quick paring, be it, potato skins or chicken.
  No, these blades have no heft and the blades are quite thin, but this is not what I look for in a paring knife.
  Also when you get them on sale like I did, they are even more of a joy.

• Might be better to buy one pretty good paring knife, instead
  It's hard to turn down anything with the name "Wusthøf" when it looks like a bargain -- at least, it's hard for me. And the idea of three speciality paring knives certainly appealed. Nevertheless, the low price caused me to lower expectations to a level that I thought would be realistic. I didn't lower them enough.
  The knives have no heft at all. The blades seem terribly flimsy. Grasping the light plastic handles provides no sense of control. These aren't impossible to use; i simply make a point... more info
