15 AMP Power and Quieter Operation The 2012NB features a 15 AMP motor with a no-load speed of 8,500 RPM and the quietest (83 dB) operation in its class. It has a four-post design and diagonal cross supports for stability, with large table extensions to support the work piece and fully adjustable depth stops for repeat cuts. The 2012NB has a feed rate of 28 feet-per-minute, with an easily-adjusted cutting depth setting for precision planning (maximum thickness: 6-3/32 inches).
Ease-of-Use Features The 2012NB is compact and lightweight for easy transport to the job site. The 2012NB has faster and easier blade changes, and uses disposable double-edge planer blades. The L.E.D. light indicates that the planer is plugged into the power source, and the large paddle on/off switch is easy to operate. The 2012NB also has a detachable tool box for storage of the standard equipment. An optional dust hood enables a dust collection system to be connected to the planer.

Sweet planer The planer was all I hoped for, smooth and powerful. I have no reservations in recomending it to anyone, as with all my Makita tools. The method of shipping was the only problem, though, as it was shipped in it's original box with no additional packing. I think that would have been OK if the crank had been removed for shipping as it was broken. Get it you will enjoy your woodworking more I have been using this on and off for a year. I have planed Hard Maple, White Oak and also soft wood. It does a fantastic job. Recently I had an incident where the planer will not plane and the boards were getting stuck. I though it was a dull knife. What turned out was that I did not attach a dust collector and the chips were coming in the way. Once I cleansed the chips it worked like a champ with no problems whatsoever. Excellent Machine! I am a contractor and was surprised to unpack, turn on, and watch it plane perfectly. I could not be happier with this tool. As far as I am concerned, it paid for itself in the first trim out job.
1.5 Years 1-2 times a week I am a wood working Hobbyist, mainly a box maker and small projects. I've had this for about 1.5 years. Sometimes I don't use it for a couple weeks, but at the beginning of every project I'm always planning for a hour or so to get the required thickness. It definitely does produce snipe, but I'm yet to hear of a planer that doesn't. I've never changed the blades or even made an adjustment. I took it out of the box, plugged it in, and planed away.
