Editorial Review:

The iron of choice for those who want professional results, this heavyweight model will handle everything from delicate chiffon to heavy drapery fabric. Let the weight of the iron do some of the work and take the drudgery out of this household task.

This model eases the burden of heavy ironing with loads of features, beginning with a dimpled, polished stainless-steel soleplate for a smooth glide and a large transparent water tank for interruption-free work. The Luxe also has 1,440 watts of power and automatically shuts off in 30 seconds if left horizontal or tipped over (in 8 minutes if left vertical). A self-cleaning button flushes out mineral buildup in the water tank. Operational features on this iron include everything imaginable. There are variable steam settings, including vertical steam for removing wrinkles in curtains and hanging garments, misting spray, and steam burst. This iron also has a double row of steam holes and an antidrip system for when the thermostat is on low. Rowenta hasn't overlooked convenience, either. The center-mounted pivoting cord prevents tangles, the soft handle provides a slip-resistant grip, and antiskid bumpers ensure stability when the iron is upright. This iron carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

  • BEWARE! this iron is great for about 2 years
I've had this iron for two years and paid $100.00US for it, I have taken very good care of this iron and have used it on one shirt and one pair of pants 5 days a week for the past two years. Until last Wednesday it has been a wonderful value, the iron is built so well it almost irons by itself. On Wednesday the power cord shorted out, if you google it, you will find that many other customers have had the same problem. The solution is to pay $50.00 to have it repaired or buy a new one. I'm a handy guy and... more info

  • Rowenta Professional Luxe DM880-no useful service life
I own the above appliance for 3 years. It has a wonderful design and when new, functioned admirably. Well worth the 100+ dollars spent. Unfortunately, the service life is extremely short. Used for household ironing only, and not very much in my opinion, the on-light now frequently cycles between red and orange so you are never sure if it is heating properly. The performance level is terrible at this point. I tried calling Rowenta customer service but the auto answerer told me they were "all out at a... more info

  • Heat
I used a British iron from this German manufacturer in England. It was unreal with heat. Although the American one is not quite as high in heat, it is still an excellent iron. Only thing I really hate about it (when using starch, you have to clean with a soft scrub because of buildup).

  • Not worth it
I purchased this iron February 2004, believing that it was a top of the line product. This iron caught on fire while ironing, I had it for approximately 1 1/2 years. I have had ten dollar irons that have lasted longer than this. I'm very disappointed with this product.
