Magnetic crane raises and lifts magnetic cargo

Editorial Review:
Like all cranes, Cranky has a high and mighty attitude which often annoys the engines. Cranky knows that if he ever gets too big for his crane hook, the engines have ways of getting back at him. However, Cranky enjoys teasing them because, he says, it makes for good working relationships...but don't ask Percy if he agrees! One crank turns Cranky's head left and right, while a second crank lifts any available magnetic cargo. Cargo included. Measures 10.5" high.
Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends is an ensemble of lovable railroad characters that includes Cranky the Crane. Cranky is one of the add-ons to the award-winning Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway System. Straight out of the books by W. Awdry that made Thomas famous, Cranky has a fascinating history and a captivating personality. This crane comes with experience, a slightly testy temperament, and two large red handles for easy operation. Cranky's body attaches lickety-split to the crane tower. One handle pivots Cranky around; the other raises and lowers cargo for loading and unloading cars by magnetic power. Cranky the Crane comes with one piece of cargo, also durably built of wood. --Lynne Sampson

Fun product I purchased this for my son's 4th birthday. He loves it. He actually has wanted one for almost a year, as his friend has one. One year old baby brother loves it too, but doesn't really know how to use it correctly. So far, it has remained intact. My only recommendation would be to purchase an extra train car or boat or truck that can accept the load, as it would be much more fun to have someplace different to put the cargo once it has been uplifted. I will probably purchase something (maybe that is the... more info
good toy with some flaws My son (age 3) couldn't wait to get cranky for Christmas, and he loves it! I have to admit that the magnet is very strong, my son can string Annie and Clarabel together and Cranky can hold them both up! My biggest complaint is that it should be attached to a small piece of track like many of the other Thomas additions are. When my son turns the crank, if he doesn't hold cranky down with his other hand, the whole thing topples over. If it had a wider base and was attached to the track, then it would be... more info
Cranky is a work in progress... I've read some of the other reviews and, well, our Cranky's head has NEVER fallen off. So many that is a recent thing? But my husband came back from the toy store today and noted that Cranky has been redesigned with a base that attaches to the track. Our problem with Cranky is that he falls over too easily. But durability is always going to be the issue with a 2 year old, I imagine :)
A must have! This is a really cool piece! Cranky pivots 180 degress, retrieves cargo from the trains, and can distribute it elsewhere with help. My son has thoroughly enjoyed playing with this. For play value, it's definitely worth the money.
