The Elements of Style is a classic work which is intended for use in English courses in which the practice of composition is combined with the study of literature. It aims to give in brief space the principal requirements of plain English style. It aims to lighten the task of instructor and student by concentrating attention (in Chapters Two and Three) on a few essentials, the rules of usage and principles of composition most commonly violated. The numbers of the sections may be used as references in correcting manuscript.

THE GOOD REVIEWS ARE FOR ANOTHER BOOK!!! The book sold on this page is NOT the 4th Edition of Strunk and White's Elements of Style. Nor is the "Look Inside" link correct. This is a public domain version of what appears to be Strunk's orginal book. The typography is not as described in the text. Comparative references to text in the "right column" and "left column" refer in this book to text in upper and lower paragraphs. Don't buy this book. Instead by the fourth edition by Longman Publishers.
The Elements of Style I was pleased with the condition of the used book and the price. It's for a Creative Writing Workshop that I will be leading in January and I wanted to have a copy to show how cheap one could get resource materials from Amazon!! $1.92 plus shipping!!
