Editorial Review:

Weaving, one of the fastest ways to produce cloth, is thoroughly explained in this simple guide to the age-old craft. A perfect blend of ease and functionality, the small, portable rigid heddle loom can be used to easily produce loose, drape-friendly fabric as well as dense, sturdy material. Eighteen projects--for scarves, bags, belts, tops, and a bevy of household goodies such as pillows, rugs, and blankets--explore how to combine colors and create textured fabrics using a variety of techniques. Additional tips on adding crocheted edges, beaded fringe, and needle-felted flowers are also included.

  • One for beside your loom
The rigid heddle loom is coming of age! Liz Gipson proves that its far more than just a poor relation to the bigger floor and multi-harnessed looms, and a quick flick through this book shows why. Here are modern projects, using modern yarns in ways the manufacturers didn't imagine, to create clothing, bags, upholstery, and fashion accessories. The illustrations and descriptions are clear enough for beginners to tackle with confidence, and will inspire more experienced weavers to stretch their imaginations... more info

  • Good for beginners
I am a beginning weaver and I borrowed this book from the library. I think the projects and instructions on warping are great for a new weaver. I'm making a wrap from a pattern in this book and it looks great. Definitely a more modern version of the other books I own. Only issue, I think that some of the directions are unclear and there are spelling/editing mistakes that get in the way of understanding. Just be careful when starting a project that you fully understand the directions. The corrections are... more info

  • weaving made easy
I would call myself either an "advanced beginner" or "Low intermediate" weaver and this book was perfect for my skill level -- had great color photographs, not only of projects but of process: warping, following patterns, everything. What I really appreciated was its emphasis on ridged heddle looms, which is what I have. The model I have ("Flip the Folding Loom") was even in several pictures. I hadn't seen that before.

  • It really does make weaving easy!
This is the best book for a beginning weaver I have found. I am a self taught weaver, using pipe looms, cards, and a rigid heddle loom. Sometimes threading a rigid heddle can get difficult (for me anyway!) and Liz Gipson really does a good job explaining and has great pictures to help. The projects are not too difficult, but there is enough to interest a more advanced weaver. I really liked this book. Ignore the review about a few mis-spelled words. It doesn't detract from the book.
    Marsha
