Cuba's number 2 official today -- Commander Juan Almeida -- was secretly working with JFK in November 1963 to overthrow Fidel. The US government recently revealed Almeida's work for JFK, allowing the updated trade paperback of Ultimate Sacrifice to tell the full story for the first time (complete with new photos and documents). The authors obtained the story from almost two dozen associates of John and Robert Kennedy, starting in 1990 with JFK's Secretary of State Dean Rusk. Their accounts are supported by thousands of newly-released files at the National Archives. Almeida's "palace coup" set for December 1, 1963, was to be backed up by US forces "invited" in by Commander Almeida, then Chief of the Cuban Army. However, three Mafia bosses being targeted by Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy used several CIA assets to infiltrate the secret plot and murder JFK. This resulted in cover-ups by officials like RFK and LBJ, to prevent the exposure of Almeida and a possible nuclear confrontation with the Soviets. The new edition explains why Almeida was not a double agent, why Fidel suspected Almeida's ally Che Guevara, and what Fidel did in 1990 when he finally found out about Almeida's work for JFK.

Interesting but lacking I appreciate the research that went into this book and it definitely sheds light on who was involved, or could have been involved in the Kennedy assassination. However, here again, as with Posner, the authors do not entertain the notion of government involvement with the actual assassination. The assumption is that the mob took out JFK and the government covered it up because many of the same people under investigation were also involved in a plot to overthrow Castro. I find this hard to swallow. I will... more info
THOUSANDS DOTS TO CONNECT This book cites so many sources that have only become available in the last ten or so years that I found myself wondering how legitimate were the sources and the book itself. It would be easy to cite illegitimate sources because very few readers have the time or inclination to conduct such extensive research to discredit a book of this nature. Assuming, however, that Waldron and Hartmann were legitimate researchers who devoted a large part of their life to this cottage industry of proving a conspiracy... more info
Impressive silences I rate this book with five stars nor for what is says, but for what it does not say; not because I have accepted the authors' theory, but because it drove me to pay very special attention precisely to things left unsaid.
If a top secret plan, "C-Day", had indeed been penetrated, if Chicago, Tampa and Dallas had been three identical attempts by the "penetrators" to kill JFK, if RFK had realized that "C-Day" had been used to kill his brother hours after the tragedy in Dallas, then, in exactly the same... more info
Amazing and extremely persuasive (& well documented) I'm only a third of the way through this nearly 1000 page book, but it's extremely impressive. Packed full of details, this book does an excellent job of laying the groundwork for a satisfying and wholly credible conspiracy theory. According to this account, the root of the JFK assassination can be found in RFK's (and JFK's, to lesser extent) pursuit of the mafia, beginning in 1958 (see 'The Enemy Within' by RFK for more). And the book provides even the background of this public investigation (NYC mob boss... more info
